It seems every year retailers move Christmas shopping closer and closer to just after Thanksgiving, and overshadowing Thanksgiving all together. But this year with so many stores announcing that they will be open ON Thanksgiving that they have cut out Thanksgiving all together.
I am sorry but to me and everyone I know or have spoken to about this feel this is so very WRONG!
Thanksgiving has always been our way to stop the treadmill for one day a year to give thanks, show gratitude, and gather with friends and family. Now corporations want to take that away so they can make a few dollars more in profit.
We will not shop this holiday season with any store that is open on Thanksgiving day. These corporate bosses need to know we "the people" DO NOT WANT this! Lets all just agree to not shop this holiday season in any store that is open on the one day a year we all stop, gather with friends and family to give thanks. Come on BIG box stores show some respect for your employees and let them have the day off with their families! There is a right way and a wrong way to make money and cutting out Thanksgiving is just plain WRONG!
I am not the only one upset about this. The net is full of post about how upset shoppers are with K-mart over this. There even has been a facebook page started Just say no to shopping on Thanksgiving Day that is gaining some viewers asking shoppers not to shop on Thanksgiving Day
A nation that is unwilling to stop for one day and be thankful, does not deserve a Christmas present. I for one will not be giving these companies the "Christmas present" of my dollars if they stay open on Thanksgiving. I may be only one voice, but sometimes in life one has to stand and be counted even if no one is listening.
